Record LED lights and compare to LED Status picture -------------------------------------------------------------- Manual Self-Test on VXA Autoloader BEFORE STARTING THE SELF-TEST The 1U firmware must be at V1A10F or higher in order to perform the Drive Internal Self Test. You must have an empty slot in the autoloader. If you receive the message "MEDIA REMOVAL LOCKED BY HOST" when attempting to export a tape, you will need to unlock the autoloader through your backup application. Refer to your backup application's help or manuals for further assistance. THE TROUBLESHOOTING PROCEDURE: 1. Run the Internal Self Test. 2. Note the test results as indicated by the LCD message and check the chart below for an explanation. 3. If the test passes, the tape drive is functioning properly. Check the SCSI bus, operating system/drivers or backup software for additional troubleshooting. 4. If the test fails, clean the drive and run the test again with a different tape. 5. If the test fails a second time, save a log file and contact Technical Support. For instructions on saving the log file, see the Readme.txt file on the Download page of the appropriate VXATool. BEGIN THE SELF-TEST From the 1U Main Display: Press * to go to Menu Press the Right Arrow until Perform a Diagnostic is displayed Press the Down Arrow to access the Diagnostic Options Press the Right Arrow until Run Drive Selftest displays Press * to accept The front panel LCD displays the following prompts: LCD MESSAGE ACTION | (Do this in response to the message.) ----------------------------------|----------------------------------------- Requires scratch tape. OK? Press * to acknowledge. Test deletes all tape data. OK? Press * to acknowledge. Import Cartridge Positioning (as the media door opens) No action required. Insert Scratch Tape: Press key Insert a new cartridge and press any key. The tape loads into the tape drive and the self-test begins. While the test is running the LCD displays: Drive Selftest: Wait Drive Test When the test is completed, the cartridge will automatically unload and be exported. The LCD prompts: Remove cartridge Press any key Test Results The front panel LCD displays the results of the Self Test as follows: LCD MESSAGE DESCRIPTION CORRECTIVE ACTION "Selftest Status:" "Pass FRU=0" Drive passed Self Test None required. "Selftest Status:" "Fail FRU=1" Test failed with Hardware Error Follow the steps in The Troubleshooting Procedure. "Selftest Status:" "Fail FRU=2" Test failed with Media Error Insert the correct cartridge type and try the test again (use only undamaged VXA cartridges). "Selftest Status:" "Fail FRU=3" Test failed with Hardware Error and Current Media Error Follow the steps in The Troubleshooting Procedure. Insert the correct cartridge type and try the test again (use only undamaged VXA cartridges).
